A drug detection dog named Skye recently made a compelling visit to Fowey River Academy to engage with students and educate them about drug prevention. Skye, trained to detect drugs, conducted passive searches among Year 10 students, aged 14 to 15, by sniffing them and their school bags. Notably, no drugs were found during these inspections.

PC Gareth Hawken, who coordinated the school's engagement, clarified that Fowey River Academy was not targeted due to drug-related issues. Instead, it was chosen because of the positive relationship the police department has with the school.
"We don't come to the schools wanting to find any drugs and it's a great result that we don't," PC Hawken explained. This emphasizes the proactive and preventive nature of the program rather than a punitive approach.
