First, you are not the only person that has been experiencing the problem of morning headaches. In fact, a new study by professionals shows that 1 out of every 13 people experiences medium to severe headaches each time they wake up in the morning.

The study also showed that women are more affected by such headaches than men, which usually happens to people within 45 to 64 years.

Some sleep disorders contribute to a person having a morning headache, as well as personal habits.

Below, you will learn everything you need to know about why you wake up with a headache and how to get rid of it.

    Causes of Morning Headache

    Insomnia or Sleep Loss

Not having enough sleep each day is very bad for one’s health, which is already a fact. Not having enough sleep is a major reason many wake up with morning headaches.

People who have insomnia find it very hard to fall asleep, and this causes them to have headaches and feel sluggish throughout the day.

    Oversleeping

Just like not having enough sleep, oversleeping can also cause you to experience morning headaches.

You should be more interested in having the optimum sleep you need instead of sleeping less or oversleeping.

    Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea, also known as snoring, can cause morning headaches if you don’t control it.

Because of snoring, you sometimes fail to breathe throughout the night, and this causes the headache you experience in the morning. You need to learn how to get rid of headaches caused by sleep apnea using anti-snoring products.

    Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding also contributes to morning headaches you feel, and it is also known as bruxism.

Those who have researched this issue believe that the headache felt due to sleep bruxism is rather dull.

    Alcohol

Especially for those who love hangovers, lots of drinks you take is a major reason you wake up with morning headaches.

It might not even be during hangovers; taking too much alcohol is very dangerous to one’s health and comes with many disadvantages.

    Sleep Posture

Yes, how you sleep matters a lot and can contribute significantly to morning headaches. Therefore, it is recommended that you choose a better sleeping position and sleep with supportive pillows.

    Symptoms of Morning Headaches

Before you rule that the pain you are feeling in your head is a morning headache, you must be sure of the symptoms. Here are the most basic symptoms of morning headaches.

    • Eye pain
    • Dizziness
    • Coordination and balance issues
    • Dropping eyes
    • Difficulties holding a pen or pencil
    • Swelling in the eyes
    • Uncontrolled vomiting
    • Blurry vision

Now you know what causes morning headaches and the symptoms that come with them, the next thing to learn is how to get rid of morning headaches.

While treating morning headaches, you can keep a diary to outline everything that happened during the treatment. This documentation can be important to your doctor and also for self-assessment purposes.

    • Limit Alcohol and Caffeine Intake

You already know that alcohol and caffeine can lead to morning headaches, so you can stop the morning headaches by limiting your intake.

Instead of many bottles of alcohol, you can take one glass a day as a woman and two glasses as a man each day. Also, don’t take alcohol before you sleep, as it can disrupt your sleep.

    • Exercise Regularly

Exercise is very important for the body and can help balance your body for a better sleeping routine.

While exercising is very good, try not to exercise too close to bedtime as it can make you stay up longer than expected.

    • Have a Consistent Sleep Schedule

If you are learning how to get rid of morning headaches, then you must Keane how to keep a consistent sleep schedule.

Try not to fall out of that sleep schedule; if you specified 9 pm as the time to sleep and 5 am as the time to wake up, try to keep up with it.

    • Provide a Healthy Sleep Environment

The problem might not be from the amount of time you spend sleeping but from how you sleep.

When you want to sleep, ensure that where you are sleeping is dark, has little noise coming in, and has an optimum temperature. When you have something like this, you will sleep properly and healthier without issues.

    • Take Anti-snoring Products

If you are one of those who snore while sleeping, it can lead you to have sleeping disorders and, subsequently, morning headaches.

If you snore and don’t want to wake up with a headache in the morning, you might consider taking anti-snoring products to stop it.

    Conclusion

Morning headaches can be quite disturbing and can lead you to be less productive than you intended, which is not good.

Many things make you wake up with a headache in the morning, including snoring, oversleeping, insomnia, and high alcohol/caffeine intake.

To stop experiencing morning headaches, you should limit your intake of alcohol, establish a good sleeping pattern, and exercise regularly.
